The scope of work ranges from tuning to complete overhaul and rebuilding of pianos and similar instruments, including electric/electronic pianos: restring replace or reshape hammers replace, repair, or make parts for actions replace or adjust dampers remount or make bridges repair loose or cracked soundboards repair damage to keyboards, cases, etc. There are 56 acoustic pianos (37 grands and 19 uprights), 65 electronic keyboards, 6 harpsichords, 2 celesta, and 1 portative organ in use by the School of Music and Dance. The Piano Technician II will have primary responsibility for tuning, maintenance, repair, rebuild, inspection, and inventory of these instruments. The Piano Technician II is responsible for technical and maintenance support for the School of Music and Dance's keyboard instruments. The School sponsors approximately 250 concerts and events throughout the year as part of the curriculum and for the community at large. The office staff serves approximately 300 undergraduate music majors, 30 graduate music majors, and 85 undergraduate dance majors and minors. Dance offers BFA and BA degrees and a minor.
